The portrait is painted by Finetta Brandreth for her scholarship. The stretcher of the canvas has written on the back in pen "Jeannie Sagg friend of Finetta of the Slade.
The artists of the Slade school showcased a shift towards modernism and realism in their portrait work and this is an excellent example of that style.
