An early 20th century Realism portrait oil painting on canvas signed Arthur J Lyons  (1873-1948)

Titled Portrait of a Gentleman it is a self portrait of the artist.

Arthur Jacob Lyons studied at The Royal Academy from 1894-1897, exhibiting there in 1911. He spent a short time living in Pris exhibiting there in 1908 before moving to St Ives Cornewall  in 1914. One of his works is part of the collection owned by The Walker Gallery Liverpool.

This painting is a very accomplished portrait and remains in it's original frame. The portrait has undergone extensive paint flaking, which has been secured from further damge by several coats of artists matt varnish and the canvas has been strengthened on the back. The frame has some areas of loss which have been shown in close detail images. All of this is reflcted in the price.

Measurements are 64cm W x 74cm H x 4cmD in the frame. The canvas measures 49cm W x 62cm H.
