A fabulous Victorian antique, folk art, painted wooden panel Portrait of a Scottish Highlander.
The painting also shows a small soldier on horseback in battle in the background and on the reverse of the panel is another soldier on horseback near a bridge with a castle in the background.
During the Victorian era Scottish folk art and paiantings depicting Scottish folklore, historical legends and scenes of battle were heavily influenced by the romantic movement & a fasconation with Highland culture. This movement was driven by Queen Victorias own passion for the Highlands of Scotland.
The Painting measures 40cm Diameter. The painting on the reverse is scratched and damaged.
